Scarlet Passionflower (Passiflora coccinea) is a fast growing vine that produces vibrant crimson flowers, and a speckled green fruit with a juicy and tangy pulp, although it is widely unknown and under-appreciated. There are over 500 species of Passiflora, each one producing a beautiful and completely unique flower, and often times a delicious fruit as well. Here on Maui, Lilikoi (Passioflora edulis var. flavicarpa) is the most common and loved passionfruit variety, and produces sweet, tart, bright yellow fruits that are found abundantly throughout the island.
