Wild Iris (Dietes grandiflora) also called the African butterfly plant, is commonly seen in the eastern cape region of South Africa where its native to, and is sometimes called “The Jewel of the Savannah”- however, in Australia it is considered a weed. It is a perennial plant that remains evergreen throughout the winter, and has a delicate appearance with beautiful white and purple blooms on an arching stem. This one was growing in Kula, Maui.
