Heliconia (Heliconia rostrate) is native to South America, and can grow up to 15 ft tall in nature! They have large, banana-like leaves, and bright red downward facing flowers with yellow tips, that are filled with nectar and usually pollinated by hummingbirds. It is sometimes called False Bird of Paradise, because of its striking resemblance to the Birds of Paradise plant (Strelitzia spp.). This one was growing in Kula, Maui.
